Fourth Building Physics Visiting Professor appointed
Professor King (pictured), who for a number of years has been contributing to teaching in the University of Bath's Department of Architecture & Civil Engineering, is the fourth Visiting Professor to be appointed, following appointments at Bristol, Cambridge and Sheffield. The Visiting Professorships initiative is intended to strengthen the undergraduate curriculum relating to building physics, building systems, whole-life costing and energy. It is hoped that graduates will emerge with a broadened academic base and an ability to apply that knowledge to helping create a sustainable future. Professor King is a founder of King Shaw Associates, and is a recognised pioneer in the field of sustainability. He has worked on a series of unique and notable buildings, including the Gridshell for the Weald & Downland Museum, the Millennium Superstore for Sainsbury at Greenwich and the Innovate Green Office in Leeds. "The feedback on the three existing posts at Bristol, Cambridge and Sheffield is extremely positive," commented Richard Haryott, Chairman of the Foundation Trustees. "We are delighted that Bath has appointed Doug King and we look forward to expanding further as more industry partners come on board." The Ove Arup Foundation would like to hear from organisations interested in joining its funding team so that a Building Physics visiting professorship can be established at a fifth location. As a sponsor you will have an opportunity to participate in the direction of this project, to the benefit of both yourselves and of society in general. In a world in which the supply of fossil fuels can no longer be taken for granted, we believe the Building Physics initiative can only grow in importance. As well as The Ove Arup Foundation and RAE, the funding team currently includes the Happold Trust, DSSR, Hoare Lea and Ian Ritchie Architects.
