Engineering A Low-Carbon Built Environment

altThe Royal Academy of Engineering has published a report outlining concerns about how a lack of understanding about the systems within buildings — and the systems that those buildings stand in — is threatening the UK's efforts to meet its emissions targets.

The report, by Professor Doug King, and with a foreword by the Over Arup Foundation's Chairman Richard Haryott, urges engagement with Building Engineering Physics — the science of optimising the physical characteristics of buildings and their systems to balance their energy demands, exploit natural energy sources and minimise the reliance on artificial energy.

Doug King was appointed Visiting Professor in Building Engineering Physics at Bath University in 2007, using funding from the Ove Arup Foundation, the Royal Academy of Engineering and their industry partners.
